LEAGUE RULES
HANDICAPS
Initial handicaps will be determined based on your current MGA home handicap off the computer. Your 9-hole handicap will be computed by dividing your home handicap by two and throwing out any fraction. These handicaps will be noted on the computer each week. They will change everytime there is a handicap revision on the computer. New members without a handicap must contact the Handicap Chairman, Ron Dutra, for the establishment of a handicap.
All players in the weekly match play off the low handicap in the foursome for team points and off their individual opponents for match points.
Example: Team A is playing Team B
Player A1 is a 5 handicap; Player A2 is a 6 handicap
Player B1 is a 3 handicap; Player B2 is a 7 handicap
Each match is worth 54 points, 6 points per hole. All points are awarded based on net scores. The low handicap player on Team A plays the opposing low handicap of Team B and the high handicap player of Team A plays the high handicap player of Team B. If the handicaps for both players of a team are the same, that team will designate high and low players (not the opposition)
Each of the individual matches is worth 2 points per hole (4 points total). The additional 2 points is for the team net best ball score of the foursome. Ties are worth 1 point. There are actually three separate matches on each hole, each worth a total of 2 points: A1 vs B1, A2 vs B2, and Team A vs Team B. Your point total accumulates all season, so it is very important to play for every point available throughout the match. Standings at the end of the season sometimes vary by only a couple of points. Handicap strokes come into play on all matches.
Example: Player B1 plays scratch (no strokes) because
he is the low handicap player in the foursome. Player A1 gets 2 strokes
in his match with B1. Player B2 will get 1 stroke in his match with Player A2.
For the team points additional strokes may be given depending on handicaps in
relation to the low player of the foursome. Player B1 is still scratch, Player
A1 remains with 2 strokes, Player A2 will get 3 team strokes, and player B2
will get 4 team strokes.
Team strokes only apply to the team match.
It is the responsibility of the team to make sure that they have two men to play the scheduled match. Obviously, not everyone can make it every week. For that reason we will have a substitute list posted on the board. You can use anyone on the list in addition to any association member with an established handicap as a substitute. One player from each team must be present to play their match; two alternates cannot join up as a team. A match may be postponed and made up within the next two weeks only if mutually agreed to by both teams. If the match is not made up within two weeks, cards will be matched on the following week and resulting scores posted on the board. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
If one member of a team is not present and a substitute is not used, the remaining member will play against both players of the other team in the individual matches and the team match. In addition, there will be assessed a 9 point penalty against the total points won by the team with only one player. If both teams have only one player, both will be assessed a 9 point penalty after playing the match.
